1ACross is happy to present “Game of Throne”, from “Bingo”, exclusively for our solvers.

Answers can be submitted by anyone who wishes to participate, on or before EOD 5th Aug. 2021EOD 7th Aug 2021 (Extended on request). All those who submit entries have a chance to enter our new leader board for 2021.

Annotations for the puzzle will be discussed at 1ACross on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Instructions: The perimeter letters comprise three thematic entries (unclued), starting from the top left corner and going all round clockwise. These sequentially pertain to:

1) A meeting (7,5,10)
2) An appeal (9,8)
3) A name (4,5)

Unchecked letters of perimeter entries (including the 4 corners) may be arranged to form ‘GAINFUL PLOY, NO CHECKMATE’. Clues referencing entries touching the top and bottom perimeter have an extra letter each in wordplay, to be set aside for the answer. In clue order these letters spell out a thematic phrase which may be found in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (14 letters, 4 words). Solvers must apply this thematic phrase to answers of 8 other clues (touching the left or right perimeter) before entry. Answer and Entry lengths shown with clues in these cases are in the format (x/y) where x = answer length and y = entry length. All entries are real words or names.

Finally, contiguous cells designating a volume linked to the theme are present in centre of the completed grid. Solvers would need to identify those and what they denote (10,7).

Chambers 2016 is the primary reference, Collins and The Free Dictionary are also recommended references, along with Wikipedia (or just an internet search) for the theme.

Please Fill you name and email ID BEFORE you submit the grid – otherwise your submission will not be valid (You can Click on INFO in case you have dismissed the modal).

After you “Submit” please fill the form with Bonus Questions- use the same Email ID in BOTH the forms.
