@inwitinwit hosted this week and here’s his summary of the results…

This week, there was a slight uptick in the number of contestants, up 6 to 33.

In first place, by a 6-point margin and with a whopping 40 points, is Ananth Srinivasan’s clue, which uses “fuel ran” as anagram fodder (a popular choice).

I love it when an &lit comes together; Raj Jayaram has given us just that with his second-place winning entry. Its elegant deletion — “lacking in joy” — captures the funereal mood.

Just 3 points separate the next 4 finishers. In third place is another “fuel ran out” anagram, this one from Kalyan Bandyopadhyay.

Diogeneb’s fourth-place winner spans the vast gulf between birth and death. Is the period in between — like Diogeneb’s word play — a charade?

And finally, we have a two-way tie for fifth place between Dave Williams’s cryptic definition and
@LowdownCryptic’s banking(!)-every-other-letter hidden-word clue.

Thanks to all the participants and congratulations to the top finishers. Over to you, Ananth, for the next round.

Congrats Ananth – Your clue is now in our HALL OF FAME.
