1 Psycho mercilessly choking poet (5)
HOMER: Correct Location 5, Hidden in Plain Sight
2 Discards piano replaced by a novelist (5)
DUMAS, Correct Location 4, DUMPS-P(Piano)+A
3 Want one new pen (5)
TWAIN, Correct Location 2, Anagram WANT I*
4 Student following behind court writer (5)
WOOLF Correct Location 1, WOO+L+F
5 Author delights in broadcast (5)
JOYCE, Correct Location 3, Homophone of JOYS (Delights)
6 The final XWordle
WILDE – Jumble of WLID and E (W is repeated),
After solving the individual clues, these answers needed to be placed in the Grid correctly as below.
The grid had letter hints in the Pink Squares to help slot the answers. For eg, the C indicated, only an answer with C in the 4th position could be in Place 3 (narrrowing down to JOYCE). The M, indicated, DUMAS or HOMER had to be in the 4th spot while the R confirmed that HOMER was in the 5th spot. So, you had to solve the puzzle like a logic game to arrive at the correct spots for the answers. After doing that, you had to use the letters in Wordle colors, to find the correct answer which was “WILDE”.

‘@ndcnn | I confess I peeped at a couple of picture clues. Should have given a quote fr.author rather than book cover which made it too easy |
‘@KrittiAKL | Some tricky ones, struggled with 4.
The hints helped a lot. |
Nicholas Loader | Fantastic work! Perfect wordplay in all clues as always and 1-4 have flawless surfaces. Very picky but I’d prefer ‘delights in being broadcast’ or ‘delights in broadcast of/by…’ for surface, of course this would mess up the wordplay though. Oh, I’d prefer ‘a’ new pen for surface but I understand your decision to opt for the fairer wordplay. 1 and 4 were particularly excellent clues 😀 Easier than the last one – which worked well because it allowed me to finish it well within 10 mins haha. Still, a bit more difficulty would be nice. Awesome title again, would be nice to make a clue from the title as a kind of bonus but all good if that’s too ambitious 🙂 |
N. Rengaswamy | Enjoyed |
