The 1Across 7th Anniversary Gridfest – a one-month carnival of cryptic crosswords is being organized online by Bahrain resident, Sowmya Ramkumar to celebrate the 7th Anniversary of the Facebook group 1Across.
Starting August 16th, cruciverbalists get to binge on a superb spread of eclectic crosswords for an entire month and have a chance to win some exciting prizes in a phenomenal battle of brains.
This is the third Gridfest organized by the group and is perhaps the biggest virtual cryptic crossword competition of its kind where both the solvers and the setters will be competing for top rankings and prizes.
Over 130 registered participants are set to compete by attempting to crack 25 plus cryptic crosswords set by 30 compilers. The participants are from across the globe – from India, the Middle East, US, UK and Australia. The crossword grids have a number of tantalizing themes and secret puzzles buried inside the puzzles.
Sowmya and the team of Gridfest co-ordinators viz Bhalchandra Pasupathy, Ramki Krishnan and Satyen Nabar have vetted each puzzle. The co-ordinators have extensive experience not only in solving but also in setting crosswords for leading publications.
After the Gridfest, the grids will be published in the third volume of the Cryptic Crossroads series and available with major E-tailers. Volume 1 was published in 2017 and Volume 2 was published in 2019.
PayTM is the Event Sponsor and Amuselabs is providing the puzzle platform. The contest will be held virtually in the 1Across.org blog.
