1ACross is happy to present “The Great Rope Trick”, from “The Oracle“, exclusively for our solvers.

Answers can be submitted by anyone who wishes to participate, on or before EOD 16th Sep. 2020. All those who submit entries have a chance to enter our new leader board for 2020.

Annotations for the puzzle will be discussed at 1ACross on Thursday, Sep. 17, 2020.

Here’s a note from the setter:

You have no doubt heard of The Great Indian Rope Trick, where the rope is reported to take a vertical position. In The Great British Rope Trick, however, the rope was horizontal! It was the first step in the creation of something that was truly monumental.

Ancient builders in Britain probably used just a rope, and a place to fix one end of it firmly, to draw a circle. But did they have a more intimate knowledge of geometry? Find out what they probably knew and what they used it for …

  1. Hi. I did the crossword and submitted it. When I was trying to answer the bonus questions, I needed to go back to check the crossword page for the clues but I couldn’t as I had forgotten to save it.

    1. If it wasn’t saved, sadly it cannot be retrieved – which I why I had mentioned this specifically in the instructions. Unfortunately the only solution is to re-fill the grid again if you didn’t complete the submission process:(
