Stats – We had a fabulous response to the grid with 48 submissions, a new high record. Of those who submitted, 40 managed to complete the grid with zero errors but only 18 got the maximum possible score of 58. Here’s the completed grid.
The solvers had to answer the following questions after solving the grid:
(1) Which other letter-numeral combination is very popular in India and the countries of the Commonwealth?
(2) The first and last rows/columns of 3×3 grids in the composite grid represents a layer by layer top-view schematic (without colours) of the inner mechanism of which popular puzzle from the ’70s?
The correct answers are
1) T20
(2) RUBIK’s CUBE
Thanks to Viresh for his timely help and for re-designing the Exolve software that made it possible to run a fully interactive 4D puzzle – another first for 1ACross. You can access the Grid with solutions Here – Clicking Reveal ALL will show you the solutions, Annotations and the answers to the bonus questions.
Here is the scorecard (sorted by total). Congrats to the 18 people who maxed the score.
A big welcome to our new solvers Raja, Gayatri Viswanath, Pavan Kumar, Alon, Rao Arimilli, Maya Sharma, Sohil, Shafeeq S, Arjitha Balaji and Sridhar Seethapathy who are attempting the 1ACross grids for the very first time. I am particularly happy to see Gayatri, Maya and Sridhar from Bahrain who had attended my first workshop on solving cryptic crosswords and although this is fairly new to them, they were able to successfully complete the grids. Well done.
Grid Rating: The puzzle got a good score of 7.9 and got 8 perfect 10s.
Top 3 Clues: The most favorite clues were “WHY” which got 13 votes, “WIP” which got 10 votes and “PAT” which got 9 votes.
Hope you all enjoyed this fabulous puzzle. Once again, thanks for a unique grid Kishore – Although the puzzle was easy to solve, designing it and adding the extra dimensions would’ve been pretty hard. Do share with our readers how you went about constructing this puzzle and the tools you used for it since the standard software we currently use is not equipped to handle these kind of unique puzzles.
Did you like the puzzle? Do you have any feedback for us or for the setter? Please leave your comments in the blog.
Thank you Sowmya for the encouragement!!
I recently stumbled upon this site and made my first submission. Thanks for giving the opportunity to participate. I am from across the pond (Saudi), so would like to join your next workshop in Bahrain.
