Yesterday’s clue had a spectacular response with a large number of correct answers from all you who cracked it. 33 people managed to register their right answers in the blog, though this was not as high as 38 yesterday. This was from my grid in the book which, is a special type of crossword called an “Alphabet Jigsaw”. In such puzzles, you not only have to crack all the clues, but also figure out how and where they would fit in the puzzle – there’s only one unique way.

The Clue was “Short, brazen, wild animal (5)”. The Answer was “ZEBRA”. This is an “Anagram” clue. However, you first need to carry out the instruction – “Short” which indicates the word next to it has been shortened. Thus BRAZE(-N) lost its tail. Next, ‘wild” indicates that you need to “Anagram” or “Jumble” it.

The definition is  “Animal”. Once again, well done to each of you who not only solved it but also annotated it correctly in our blog post. Now, Can you solve THIS clue?

  1. ATTORNEY
a rotten meal means re areange A ROTTEN
    Ultimately yucky means Y
    together ATTORNEY : arguer

  2. ATTORNEY

    A(ROTTEN)*Y

First time coming across ‘meal’ as an anagrind.
Preferring ‘she’ in place of ‘he’ to confound the solver?

  3. Attorney (She argues)
Meal is the anagram indicator for ‘ A rotten’ + last letter of (yuck)Y

    A ttorne Y

  4. ATTORNEY.She as an lawyer who argues. Anagram of A ROTTEN + Y from end of yuckY.

  5. ATTORNEY
    Def: She/one who argues.
    A (Rotten)* Y
    Meal: anagrind for rotten
Ultimately yucky = last letter of “yucky”: Y
