We had a good response to yesterday’s teaser though only 21 people managed to register their right answers in the blog – So – we couldn’t beat our previous record of 24 correct answers. Lots of new names in the list – Welcome to the blog if it is your first time here:)

Congrats to Sandhya Paruchuri (our first one in – once again – you are rocking it:)),  Raju Umamaheswar, Samit Kallianpur, Walpurgis, Prakash Arumugam, Arvind Ramaswamy, Koteswara Rao, Jawahar, Srinivas Kotamarthi, Iis Venky, .John Chute, Raghavan S V, Milind Ranade, Ramesh J, Suresh Dorbala, Gautham, Radhika Anand, Viveca Bhatkal, R B Iyengar,  Rengaswamy N and Krittibas Dasgupta. Camelia Oberoi who is usually spot-on,  missed out by posting “knock off”. Suresh, who posted “Smash hit” also got it wrong. Better luck with the next question Camelia and Suresh.

The Clue was “Sign of a strike when servant entered, extremely brusque (5,3)”. The Answer was “BLACK EYE”. This is a “container / content” type of clue. Here,  you need to insert “LACKEY” which means “servant” inside B and E (extremely indicates the letters at both ends of “brusque”).

The annotation is {B(LACKEY}E). The definition is devious and “sign of strike” is not a labour protest or Jeeves turning a deaf ear, but “BLACK EYE” – or what one might get after being struck.

Once again, well done to each of you who not only solved it but also annotated it correctly in our blog post. Now, Can you solve THIS clue?

Oh, and..Bood Guy till we catch up again:)
